Classic Cyclades in 7 days: Naxos, Paros, Milos

A compact, easy-to-plan route through three of the most characterful Cyclades islands.

  • 7 nights on the islands
  • 3 islands
  • 4 ferries
  • Fly into Athens

Facts checked 14 September 2026

Seven days is exactly enough to get to know three Cyclades islands well without rushing: Naxos, Paros and Milos, with every ferry crossing under 3 hours. This route deliberately starts with Naxos, the largest island in the group, because ferry connections from Piraeus are most frequent here.

Days 1-3: Naxos

Land in Athens and take the ferry to Naxos that same day (roughly 3.5 to 5 hours, depending on the type of boat). The first few days are ideal for settling in: wide sandy beaches at Agios Prokopios, a compact old town to wander through, and the option of a day trip into the quiet interior.

Days 4-5: Paros

A short crossing of about 45 minutes takes you to Paros. Split your time between quiet Parikia and livelier Naoussa. This is also a good moment for a half-day trip to Antiparos.

Days 6-7: Milos

The longest crossing of the route (about 2 to 3 hours on a fast boat) takes you to Milos. Outside July and August this boat does not sail every day, so check the timetable before you fix your nights on Paros. Milos is worth it, with its volcanic landscape and dozens of unique beaches. Rent a car for these two days: many of the best spots, like Sarakiniko and the boathouses of Klima, are scattered across the island.

The way back

From Milos you sail back to Piraeus (about 3 hours on a fast boat, up to 7 on a conventional ferry, with daily departures), then take your return flight from Athens. Ideally book the ferry to Athens a day before your flight, so any delay doesn’t cost you a missed departure.

Frequently asked questions

Is 7 days enough for Naxos, Paros and Milos?

Yes, this route gives 2-3 nights per island, which is enough time to settle in without spending the trip mostly on ferries. Ferry crossings between the three islands are all under 3 hours.

What's the longest ferry crossing on this route?

Paros to Milos: from about 1 hour 45 minutes on a fast boat to 3 hours, and much longer on a conventional ferry. It is also the leg with the fewest sailings, daily in high summer but only a few days a week outside it, so plan your Paros nights around it.

Do you need a rental car for this route?

Not for Naxos or Paros, where towns and beaches are close together. On Milos, a car is worth it: many of the best spots, like Sarakiniko and Klima, are spread across the island.
