About Paros

Paros has grown into one of the most popular Cycladic islands, partly thanks to its central position in the ferry network. Parikia and the marble village of Naoussa offer two very different atmospheres: the former quieter and historic, the latter livelier with a harbour full of fishing boats and restaurants open late.

The west coast around Golden Beach is known for windsurfing and kitesurfing thanks to the steady summer meltemi. Anyone who prefers calmer water can head to the smaller bays on the east side. Paros makes a great stop in almost any Cyclades route.

Tips

  • Take the short boat to Antiparos for a relaxed day trip.
  • Book dinner reservations in Naoussa ahead in July/August, the good spots fill up fast.

Full guide

Paros sits almost exactly in the middle of the Cyclades, which means nearly every ferry route through the island group can stop here. But Paros deserves more than a stopover: Naoussa’s nightlife and some of the best windsurfing conditions in Greece both live on the same island.

Two faces

Parikia, the main town, is quiet by day with a Venetian castle and an archaeological museum. Naoussa, on the north coast, transforms by evening into one of the liveliest harbour towns in the Cyclades, with restaurants serving late and bars right on the water.

The east coast, led by Golden Beach, is considered one of the best windsurfing spots in Greece. The meltemi blows here almost guaranteed in July and August, making it a favourite among the international watersports crowd. For calmer swimming water, head to the smaller bays on the west coast.

Day trip to Antiparos

A short ferry leaves from Pounta roughly every 20-30 minutes in high season for Antiparos, a small island with a relaxed atmosphere and fewer tourists than Paros itself. Half a day is enough to explore the village and the beach.

Paros pairs naturally with Naxos on a wider itinerary; both feature on our 7-day Cyclades route.
