About Paxos

Paxos is the smallest of the main Ionian islands, a compact stretch of olive groves and limestone cliffs just south of Corfu. The main town, Gaios, sits around a narrow harbor sheltered by the islet of Agios Nikolaos.

Real sandy beaches are scarce here — pebble coves and clear deep-blue water are the trade-off — but the sea caves along the west coast, best seen by boat, are spectacular.

Tips

  • Take a short boat trip to Antipaxos for the beaches of Voutoumi and Vrika — Paxos itself has little sand.
  • Rent a car or scooter to reach the west coast cliffs and the Tripitos rock arch.
  • Book ferry tickets from Corfu or the mainland (Igoumenitsa/Parga) early in July-August.
