About Ithaca
Ithaca is the mythical home of Odysseus and, despite the famous name, has managed to keep a surprisingly low tourist profile. The main town, Vathy, sits in a deep, sheltered bay and has the character of a small harbour town rather than a tourist destination.
The island has few large beaches, but the small pebble coves like Gidaki are often reachable only by boat and stay quiet as a result. Ithaca makes an ideal short, contemplative stop on an Ionian route, especially combined with nearby Kefalonia.
