About Kasos

Kasos is the southernmost Dodecanese island, a rocky, windswept outpost closer to Crete than Rhodes, with a strong seafaring tradition and a large diaspora in Egypt and the US. Its main town, Fry, has the unpolished feel of a working harbor.

Amenities are basic and beaches modest, but the island rewards hikers and cave explorers with the Ellinokamara and Selai caves and scattered Byzantine ruins.

  • Visit the Ellinokamara cave with ancient wall remains, and the nearby Selai cave with stalactites.
  • Stay in Fry and explore the traditional villages of Panagia and Poli on foot or by scooter.
  • Expect strong summer meltemi winds, which can disrupt ferries between Kasos and Karpathos.
