About Tinos

Tinos is the spiritual heart of the Cyclades, home to the Church of Panagia Evangelistria, one of the most important pilgrimage sites in Greek Orthodoxy. Beyond the port town, more than 40 marble villages, hundreds of ornate dovecotes and the marble-carving village of Pyrgos reward slow exploration.

Despite sitting right next to Mykonos, Tinos stays far quieter and windier, with old stone paths linking villages like Volax, ringed by surreal granite boulders, and bougainvillea-draped Kardiani.

Tips

  • Book ferries and rooms well ahead of August 15th (Assumption Day), when pilgrims flood the island.
  • Rent a car or scooter — the inland villages are the real draw and buses are limited.
  • Pack a windbreaker even in summer; Tinos is one of the windiest Cyclades.
