About Symi
Symi is famous for its amphitheatre-shaped harbour, lined with pastel-coloured neoclassical houses dating from the heyday of sponge fishing. The island is small enough to explore properly in a few days, but has enough footpaths and small coves to justify a longer stay.
Because Symi is often visited as a day trip from Rhodes, the harbour gets busier with excursion boats during the day; calm returns in the early morning and evening. The Panormitis monastery, on the south side of the island, is a popular destination for pilgrims and tourists alike.
