About Skyros
Skyros stands apart geographically and culturally from the rest of the Sporades, with its own dialect, costumes, furniture style and the small, sturdy Skyrian horse found nowhere else. Chora, the capital, is a maze of white cubist houses climbing to a Venetian castle, built inland and hidden from the sea as protection from historic pirate raids.

Tips
- Visit during Apokries (pre-Lent carnival) for the famous goat-dance festival, if timing allows.
- Look out for protected Skyrian horses, an endangered native breed, at the sanctuary near Chora.
- Ferries run from Kymi on Evia; there's also a small domestic airport.
