About Agios Efstratios

Agios Efstratios (often called Ai Stratis) is a tiny, isolated island with a single village, largely rebuilt after a devastating 1968 earthquake. Used as a place of political exile for much of the 20th century, it now has only a few hundred residents and almost no tourist infrastructure.

  • Check ferry schedules well ahead — connections are infrequent, mainly via Limnos.
  • Expect a genuinely quiet, undeveloped island rather than sights or nightlife.
